This document is a proposal for guidance on how to consider important factors in classification of carcinogenicity. It is published under the responsibility of the Joint Meeting of the Chemicals Group and Management Committee of the Special Programme on the Control of Chemicals of the OECD.

The purpose of this proposal is to provide a means of classifying substances or mixtures that may pose an aspiration toxicity hazard to humans. “Aspiration" means the entry of a liquid or solid chemical product directly through the oral or nasal cavity, or indirectly from vomiting, into the trachea and lower respiratory system.
