Summary of the Workshop on Science of Science Policy: Developing our Understanding of Public Investments in Science

The goal of this one-day workshop was to strengthen the links between real-life, high-level science policy decisions and quantitative/analytical as well as qualitative models of the social and economic impacts of research and development (R&D) investments.
Held in Helsinki on 12 July 2006, the workshop was attended by 22 OECD member countries, the European Commission, and Russia and South Africa.

Report on the Evolution of Student Interest in Science and Technology Studies

Are student enrolments in Science and Technology studies really going down?  What are the factors that affect students’ choices? What are the mechanisms that can be implemented to influence such choices?  This is a concise policy-level report, featuring findings and recommendations for the different stakeholders in S&T education (governments, scientific education community, business community…) and describing the main quantitative and qualitative aspects of this problem.

During the next two decades, powerful computing Grids are likely to have an impact that is comparable to the familiar World Wide Web.  Currently, Grids are being developed chiefly to support basic research.  The OECD Global Science Forum has issued a concise policy-level report, featuring findings and recommendations for governments and the scientific community, and describing prospects for the future.

Workshop on Policy Issues Related to Scientific Research Collections

Although the value and importance of large scientific research collection facilities are increasingly recognised, they face common problems linked to their historical structure, increasing demand for access, and needs for changes to their operation.  The Global Science Forum held a workshop in Leiden (The Netherlands) in June 2007 to address current political, organisational, technological and financial issues and bottlenecks faced by these scientific collections, and their international implications.
