OECD Policy Guidance on Convergence and Next Generation Networks

This Policy Guidance on Convergence and Next Generation Networks presents a number of principles which could be used by policy makers to reassess regulations and policies and to ensure existing frameworks do not hamper convergence, investment and choice in the marketplace.

Opening remarks by Angel Gurría, OECD Secretary-General at the OECD Ministerial meeting on the Future of the Internet Economy

In his opening remarks at the Seoul Ministerial meeting, Angel Gurría reminded the audience that the Internet has already become a leading engine of economic growth, accounting for some 20% of OECD countries’ GDP. He added, however, that there are a number of “pressure points” and that policy-makers must act now, both to secure the Internet’s future and to help promote convergence, creativity and confidence.

Governments give consumers a boost at high-level OECD meeting on the future of the Internet

Stepped up actions to combat online identity theft, strengthen mobile commerce business practices, and promote more transparency and consumer flexibility in communication services were highlighted at a high-level OECD meeting on the future of the Internet Economy in Seoul, Korea on 17-18 June.

Development of Policies for the Protection of Critical Information Infrastructures

This report examines how risks to the critical information infrastructure are assessed and managed in general terms, the emerging and existing models for public-private information sharing, and the national responses to the growing need for cross-border collaboration. It includes a comparative analysis of the development of policies for the protection of Critical Information Infrastructures (CII) in Australia, Canada, Korea, Japan, The Netherlands, the United Kingdom and the United States.

OECD Breakfast Series: Developing Global Strategies for Combating Identity Theft

The OECD Washington Center regularly holds OECD Breakfast Series events to promote OECD work, and to give the Washington audience a chance to interact with OECD officials.  The presentation will provide information on developments and trends, focusing in particular on the growing use of the Internet to conduct ID crime. Efforts to combat the theft will be described, as will policy guidance that was recently approved by the OECD's Committee on Consumer Policy. The discussants will provide further insights on how issues are affecting consumers in Canada and the United States.

Joint WPIIS/WPIE workshop on the Economic and Social Impacts of Broadband Communications: from ICT Measurement to Policy Implications

The workshop reviewed studies of the impacts of broadband roll-out and use: a) on economic performance at aggregate level and in the business sector, and b) on the geographical distribution of economic activity and employment, on content producers and users, and on households. It covered recent and ongoing analysis for as a wide range of OECD countries.

APEC TEL and the OECD hosted joint workshop on malware

This workshop, held in Manila, Philippines, was the first part of joint work on the subject of malware being undertaken by the Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Telecommunications and Information Working Group (TEL) and the OECD. Proceedings are available.
