Ce document de travail décrit les situations caractéristiques des conflits du travail et en examine leurs déterminants dans une perspective macro et microéconomique. Il trouve qu’avec l’arrivée au point de retournement de Lewis, les travailleurs sont plus conscients de leurs droits et plus à même de les défendre sur le marché du travail. Accompagnant les pénuries de main-d’oeuvre et l’inflation des salaires des dernières années, les conflits du travail se sont intensifiés en Chine, particulièrement après 2008 lorsque plusieurs lois régissant l’emploi chinois furent promulguées ou actualisées.

La communauté internationale peut jouer un rôle important en élargissant sa notion de coopération au-delà de la mobilisation de l'aide publique au développement officielle afin d’assurer les ressources nécessaires pour ce financement supplémentaire.

Amid all the complicated economic theories about the causes and solutions to poverty, one idea is so basic it seems radical: just give money to the poor. Despite its skeptics, researchers have found again and again that cash transfers given to significant portions of the population transform the lives of recipients. David Hulme and Armando Barrientos from Manchester University presented their book, Just Give Money to the Poor, in the first of the OECD Development Centre Social Cohesion Seminars.

The economic and financial crisis is accelerating a longer-term structural transformation in the global economy, with the aggregate economic weight of developing and emerging economies on the verge of surpassing that of the countries that currently make up the advanced world, according to new analysis from the OECD Development Centre.

Forecasts in the newly-released Perspectives on Global Development: Shifting Wealth suggest that the aggregate economic weight of developing and emerging economies is about to surpass that of the countries that currently make up the advanced world. Longer-term forecasts suggest that today’s developing and emerging countries are likely to account for nearly 60% of world GDP by 2030. The report was launched on 16 June at the OECD HQ in Paris by Angel Gurría, OECD Secretary General and Mario Pezzini, Director ad interim, OECD Development Centre.

The Rise of the Asian Consumer: Asia’s middle class could become a major driver of the global economy

The shift in the global production of goods towards Asia is well documented. But global consumer demand has so far been concentrated in the rich economies of the OECD. Will consumer demand also shift towards Asia as these countries get richer? This working paper by Homi Kharas, OECD Development Centre NRF is the first in the Perspectives on Global Development series on ‘Shifting Wealth’. Kharas shows that by 2020 more than half the world’s middle class could be in Asia, and could account for over 40 per cent of global middle class consumption – a major force in the global economy.

Tackling the Policy Challenges of Migration: Regulation, Integration, Development – Book Launch, Washington D.C., 17 November 2011

The conference will gather experts and policy makers sharing research and experience, ranging from local to global initiatives, and marks the launch of a new book by the OECD Development Centre: "Tackling the Policy Challenges of Migration: Regulation, Integration, Development." The book is the result of a three-year project on Effective Partnerships for Better Migration Management and Development, funded by the John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation. It provides a contribution to the current debate on international migration, focusing on three elements in standard policy dialogue.

Seminar "Inequality, Poverty and Public Policies in Latin America"

Nora Lustig (Tulane University, Center for Global Development and Inter-American Dialogue) presented her latest research on poverty, inequality and public policies in Latin America at a Seminar organised by the Development Centre on 11 July at the OECD Headquarters. Decreasing returns to education and targeted conditional cash transfers contribute to explain the bulk of the reduction of inequality in Argentina, Brazil, Mexico and Peru during the last decade. Learning Lessons on Innovative Finance at the OECD Global Forum on Development

OECD Global Forum on Development: Strengthening Country Ownership

This year’s Plenary of the Global Forum brought together senior policy makers and experts to discuss “ownership”, the first principle of the Paris Declaration on Aid Effectiveness. Participants grappled with controversial issues like conditionality, called for more transparent and predictable aid, and agreed on the need to support Southern research institutions and think tanks.

Dotés d'une solvabilité restaurée et par ailleurs confrontés à des besoins de financement importants, ces pays souhaitent désormais se ré-endetter. Ce Repère dont la publication fait suite à un séminaire d'experts consacré aux économies africaines et organisé conjointement le 8 juin 2006 par l'AFD et le Centre de Développement, évalue les conditions d'un tel processus de ré-endettement.
