OECD Mexico Forum - Asset Building and the Escape from Poverty

The LEED Programme was invited to present this publication in the Forum on 3 November. Longstanding expert and partner, Ray Boshara, presented the main ideas of this topic and some good practices analysed in selected OECD countries. This book is available in English, French, Italian and Spanish.

New Publication: Asset Building and the Escape from Poverty: A New Welfare Policy Debate

Extending asset-building policies to the poor can represent an effective attack on both poverty and economic and social alienation of the poor, because it has positive welfare effects that income support alone cannot provide. This book establishes the context for a fruitful debate on the merits and demerits of asset building for the poor by setting out the basic ideas involved in asset-building programmes and proposals. Global Knowledge Flows and Economic Development - Just Released!

Conference on Skills Upgrading, Copenhagen, Denmark, 18 June 2004

New program on the integration of immigrants on the labour market

The LEED Programme and the Non-Member Economies and International Migration Division (NEIM) have launched a joint activity related to the analysis of economic and social policies to foster labour market or overall social integration of immigrants and of persons of immigrant descent in host countries.

Seminar on Building Local Partnerships in the Balkans, Tirana, Albania, 22-23 April 2004

4th International Conference on Entrepreneurship: Contexts, Locales and Values - Paris, 22-24 September 2004

In the framework of the Bologna Process, the Working Party on SMEs & Entrepreneurship, in close co-operation with the LEED Programme and other OECD bodies, developed 4 themes and 2 cross-cutting issues, which constituted the core agenda for the Second OECD Ministerial Conference on SMEs held in Istanbul.

LEED activity: Local Integration of Immigrants into the Labour Market

This study analyses the economic and social policies to foster labour market or overall social integration of immigrants and of persons of immigrant descent in host countries.  Five country studies have now taken place in Canada, Italy, Spain, Switzerland and the UK.

Roundtable on "Enterprise Development and Investment Climate in Ukraine", Kiev, Ukraine

International Entrepreneurship Forum (IEF), Riga, Latvia

Seminar on Emerging models of social entrepreneurship: possible paths for social enterprise development in Central East and South East Europe, Zagreb, Croatia

Conference on “Developing the Social Economy”, Paris

Capacity building seminar on “Building Development Strategies for Cities and Regions”, Trento, Italy

This 5-day capacity building seminar will focus on the local development strategy design and implementation and more specifically it will emphasize the role of strategy in integrating different drivers, factors and enablers of local economic development. This event will bring together 60 experienced policy makers and practitioners from Central, East and South East Europe working in the area of regional and local development strategy building.

Conference on "Local Economic Strategies for Equity and Growth: Building on Success - Glasgow's Future Prosperity", Glasgow

This conference discussed the findings of the expert study mission which took place in Glasgow last January and that will contribute to the new economic strategy of the City.  The event was organised in partnership with Scottish Enterprise Glasgow and Glasgow City Council.

VI International Seminar on Corporate Citizenship - Citizens as CSR Partners: Obstacles, Good practices, Winning Strategies, Rome, Italy

Capacity building seminar on “Evaluation as a Tool for Local Development Strategy Building” Trento, Italy

The seminar will bring together the policy makers and practitioners from the CEE and SEE countries allowing for discussion i) how to best introduce and implement prior assessment so that it serves as a tool for local strategy design and delivery ii) how to best support the local level so that evaluation becomes an opportunity for learning and stops being perceived as a threat.

Stakeholders Meeting “Developing Skills for Endogenous Development”, Tirana and Shkoder, Albania

from 29-May-2006 to 31-May-2006

This workshop looked at local development assets and capacities in Northern Albania with a focus on the traditional handicraft sector, including skills development and the role of partnerships in the design, implementation and evaluation of local development strategies. This event was jointly organised by the OECD LEED Centre for Local Development and the International Labour Office (ILO).
