IAIS and OECD survey on corporate governance of insurers

The International Association of Insurance Supervisors (IAIS) and the OECD have conducted a joint survey on the corporate governance of insurers, aiming to obtain information on current practices in corporate governance of insurers and views on what might constitute good practices.  

OECD Secretary-General Angel Gurría calls for restoring economic growth path

OECD welcomes the co-ordinated efforts of political leaders and financial authorities to address issues of liquidity, solvency and recapitalisation of the financial system. Looking beyond crisis management, Mr Gurría said the OECD will focus on the structural implications of the financial crisis, including a more holistic culture of risk management, compensation issues, accountable management, and more effective regulation. “We will also make proposals for improved financial education and risk awareness to restore the confidence of consumers of financial services,” he added.

Recent Developments in Pension Accounting

In March 2008, the International Accounting Standards Board (IASB) published proposed changes to International Accounting Standard No. 19 (IAS 19).  If enacted, these changes are expected to have a significant impact on company financials on a global basis.  This paper identifies and discusses some of the proposed changes, as well as their likely impact on exchange-listed companies reporting in accordance with IAS 19.

OECD and IOPS set out blueprint for a licensing regime in the pensions industry

OECD countries and the International Organisation of Pension Supervisors (IOPS) have agreed new guidelines to help pensions regulators and supervisors improve the way private work-related pension entities, such as pension fund management companies or pension trustees, are managed in order to boost their financial security and performance.

National Treasury of South Africa/OECD/Bond Exchange of South Africa Regional Workshop on African Debt Management and Bond Markets

This Regional Workshop was held in Johannesburg, complementing the first annual OECD Forum on African Public Debt Management and Bond Markets which was held in Amsterdam in December 2006.  Motivated by African countries, the workshop’s purpose was to disseminate the recommendations and conclusions from the OECD Forum to a wider audience of officials in Africa.

1st Meeting of the OECD Forum on African Public Debt Management
