They cover the role of management, investment risk, funding risk and operational risk and risk management mechanisms. Southeast Asian economies have shown considerable resilience during the current global financial and economic crisis due to national and regional policy responses to the Asian Crisis of 1997/98 that improved the soundness of banking systems, strengthened frameworks to deal with foreign currency liquidity problems, and developed bond markets. This paper discusses the economies and financial systems of Southeast Asia, focusing on current challenges and developments in the region.
