Australia and the Isle of Man have signed a Tax Information Exchange Agreement (TIEA) and an agreement for the allocation of taxing rights over certain income of individuals. In addition, Australia and the Isle of Man have announced they will seek to continue to examine what further measures could be adopted to enhance their economic and trading relationship, and ways in which bilateral cooperation can be made as effective as possible.

The fight against tax fraud and evasion was given renewed political impetus on 21 October 2008 when 17 OECD countries agreed to step up pressure for full implementation of the OECD’s transparency and information exchange standards. The initiative, spearheaded by the French and German governments, called on OECD to review how countries and territories are assessed for full compliance with the exchange of information requirements. Isle of Man signs agreements with Nordic economies on exchange of information for tax purposes

The Isle of Man has signed bilateral agreements with seven Nordic economies -- Denmark, the Faroe Islands, Finland, Greenland, Iceland, Norway and Sweden -- on exchange of information for tax purposes, marking a significant step forward in international efforts to implement standards of transparency and exchange of information in tax matters developed by OECD’s Global Forum on Taxation.

OECD reports progress in fighting offshore tax evasion, but says more efforts are needed

Many financial centres, both onshore and offshore, are making progress in improving transparency and international co-operation to counter offshore tax evasion, but some still fall short of international standards that have been developed over the last seven years, according to OECD assessments.
