Facilitating Cross-National Comparisons of Indicators for Patient Safety: a new OECD Health Technical Paper

The OECD has released a new OECD Health Technical Paper (#19). The paper was prepared to support the overall work of the Health Care Quality Indicators Project  in developing a set of indicators that can be used to raise questions for investigation concerning the quality of care across countries. It provides a manual to facilitate cross national comparisons of indicators for patient safety through the provision of detailed practical advice on calculating each indicator in a selected set of Patient Safety Indicators (PSI) utilising national hospital administrative databases.

The OECD has released a new OECD Health Working Paper from the Economics of Prevention project. The paper (Working Paper #32) provides an economic perspective on the prevention of chronic diseases, focusing in particular on diseases linked to lifestyle choices.

9th European Health Forum Gastein 2006 (October 4-7) - "Health sans frontières"

A range of health policy challenges will be assessed and potential solutions identified in discussion with delegates at this year's forum. Those participating in the event include senior policy and decision-makers representing politics and government at European Union, national and regional levels; business and industry; health care funders and service providers; and civil society; as well as experts and researchers in health care and public health. The OECD is organising a workshop on health workforce shortages and migration and will chair a plenary session on the same theme.

Transforming disability into ability: Dissemination conference in Vienna, 6-7 March 2003

The OECD and the European Centre for Social Welfare Policy and Research organised on 6 and 7 March 2003 a conference to discuss disability policies for the working-age population. The conference addressed key problems in disability policy, and discussed OECD recommendations on how to tackle them as outlined in the forthcoming publication "Transforming Disability into Ability". The main policy recommendations from the publication formed the basis for the thematic sessions.
