Brazil joins OECD countries in landmark pact on civil aircraft export credits

The world’s major civil aircraft exporting countries, including OECD countries and Brazil, announced a landmark agreement limiting government support for export deals in an effort to end acrimonious trade disputes and encourage manufacturers and airlines to focus on price and quality rather than on financial packages of government support.

Adjustment options and strategies in the face of agricultural policy reform and trade liberalisation

Reforming agricultural policies by reducing distorting support  improves economic efficiency as a whole through a better allocation of resources. This implies that adjustment may have adverse effects on some agricultural households and other people engaged in the sector, in particular in the short term. There may also be negative impacts on upstream and downstream sectors and on regional economies that rely on commodities whose prices and production levels fall with reductions in support and protection.

The Role of Compensation in Policy Reform

Governments reform policies in order to improve their efficiency and respond to changing social priorities. Reform is resisted when concerns exist about those who may lose out in the process, or when other policy goals are negatively impacted. Compensation can remove barriers to reform by addressing this resistance.

OECD adopts stronger environmental rules for export credits

OECD countries have agreed to a Recommendation that calls for stronger environment-related requirements for export deals to qualify for export credit backing from their governments’ Export Credit Agencies (ECAs).
