This Working Paper, Assessing Default Investment Strategies in Defined Contribution Pension Plans, finds that future retirees can expect dramatic fluctuations in fortunes between members of a cohort unless they adopt investment strategies that reduce the impact of market shocks. Similar strategies should also become the default for individuals who make no active investment choice.

This working paper provides an overview of recent developments in investment treaty practice with regard to the protection of intellectual property rights (IPRs). The analysis departs from traditional IPR studies developed almost exclusively in the context of the WTO-TRIPS Agreement. This study aims to clarify the extent to which and how international investment agreements, including Regional Trade Agreements with an investment chapter, increase the scope of IPR protection beyond TRIPS minimum standards.

Turkey has made significant progress in its efforts to combat bribery in international business deals by fully implementing all but one of the recommendations made by the OECD Working Group on Bribery since 2007, earning praise from the other 37 countries that are Party to the OECD Anti-Bribery Convention at a recent meeting in Paris.

The 2nd OECD Southeast Asia Regional Forum considered a range of policy areas, one of which was investment policies. Government officials from ASEAN countries and investment experts gathered to discuss various efforts to create a more attractive investment climate in Southeast Asia. The OECD’s investment instruments and peer review methods were presented and well received by participants as they can help advance their own agenda of investment policy reforms.

After a successful launch in 2008, the Southern African State Owned Enterprise Network met again on 27-28 May 2009 in Maputo, Mozambique. The substantive issues on the agenda included appropriate legal and regulatory frameworks for SOEs, relations with stakeholders and the equitable treatment of minority shareholders.

The financial crisis highlighted many corporate governance failures. The OECD is working with governments and industry to develop and put in place more effective corporate governance standards.
