PEB Welcomes Campania

The OECD Programme on Educational Building is pleased to welcome Italy’s Campania Region as its latest Associate Member.

Second round of reviews of higher education in regional development launched

OECD/IMHE reviews of HE in regional development were launched on 10-11 September 2008. Delegates from ten regions participated in the Workshop opened by Aart De Geus, OECD Deputy Secretary General . The regions that have made a commitment to join the review process in 2008-2010 are:  Berlin (Germany),   Bio Bio region (Chile),  Campinas (Brazil),  the Galilee (Israel),  Rotterdam (Netherlands),  Southern Arizona (US) and  Veracruz (Mexico). New regions will be considered until the end of November 2008.

Improving school leadership a priority for national education policies, says OECD

Good teachers are the number one factor for excellence in student achievement but next comes high-quality leadership. Governments must do more to recruit and train the best people to run schools, according to a new OECD publication.
In today’s education world, school principals have a vital role to play in modernising entire education systems, says Improving School Leadership, a two-volume report drawing on evidence from 19 countries.

 

PEB Earthquake Documents in Chinese

The China Development Research Foundation has translated the PEB publication Keeping Schools Safe in Earthquakes  into Chinese and plans to print 1 000 copies to make available to the Chinese government and to the public. In addition, the Foundation is translating the OECD Recommendation Concerning Guidelines on Earthquake Safety in Schools.

PEB was part of an OECD delegation to Beijing for a conference hosted by the Ministry of Education and Beijing Normal University on “Education Decision Making and Indicators”. This was an opportunity to discuss aspects of education facilities and to exhibit for the first time the new PEB Compendium posters which were specially translated for the event.

Mandate Approved for OECD National Experts on Education Facilities Evaluation

On 20 February 2008, the OECD’s governing council formally approved the mandate for the OECD Group of National Experts on Education Facilities Evaluation. Following that approval, Barbara Ischinger, Director of Education, invited OECD ambassadors to nominate experts from their countries to participate in this group.
