HE and Regions brochure in Spanish: Educación Superior en el Desarrollo Regional y de Ciudades

The second round of the OECD reviews of Higher education in regional and city development has a strong focus in Latin America and Spain, where altogether seven regions will undergo a review process under the OECD lead in 2009-2010. To better serve the regions and their higher education institutions in the Spanish language area, a Spanish version of the Higher education in regional and city development brochure has now been published.

Across OECD countries, close to 40% of high-school students who come top in science subjects have no interest in pursuing a science-related career, while almost 45% do not want to continue studying science, according to a new OECD report.

Higher Education in Cities and Regions: Website Revamped

The dedicated website for the OECD Reviews of Higher Education in Regional and City Development has been revamped. The website now features easier navigation between the different rounds of the reviews, a map of all the participating regions using the Google Maps service and the brochure: Higher Education in Cities and Regions. Conference on Environments for Learners with Special Needs

PEB, in co-operation with the New Zealand Ministry of Education, held an international conference entitled “Inclusion and Integration through Innovation: The Role of 21st Century Learning Environments in Promoting Social Participation and Access to Education for Learners with Special Needs” in Auckland, New Zealand. OECD Thematic Review on Migrant Education- First Meeting of Group of National Experts

The launch of the OECD Thematic Review on Migrant Education took place from 21-22 January 2008 in OECD Headquarters, Paris. The meeting was opened by Deputy Secretary-General Aart de Geus (read his speech) and Director of the OECD Directorate for Education, Dr. Barbara Ischinger.

Informal Meeting of OECD Education Ministers on Evaluating the Outcomes of Higher Education

An  informal meeting of OECD Education Ministers hosted by the Ministry of Education Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT) will be held in Tokyo, Japan, on the 11-12 January 2008.  Ministers will discuss: society’s expectations on the outcomes of higher education; how to apply evaluation to policy and practice and assess higher education learning outcomes; and share national experiences with evaluating the quality of higher education outcomes.

OECD to publish results of its latest PISA survey on 4 December

Results of PISA 2006 will be published at 10.00 a.m. Paris time on Tuesday 4 December 2007, with news conferences and media briefings that day in Tokyo, Brussels, Berlin, London, Washington and Paris.
