International co-operation intensifies in the fight against conflict minerals

Mining and manufacturing companies have joined forces with governments, regulators and civil society organisations to push for clearer standards to trace the origins of raw materials and to help guarantee their products are untainted by conflict.

The g7+ addresses conflict and fragility at the MDG Summit

The President of Timor–Leste, José Ramos-Horta, spoke on behalf of the g7+ at the UN General Assembly. The g7+ is an independent and autonomous forum of fragile and conflict-affected countries and regions. Representatives of g7+ countries met in the margins of the MDG Review Summit to present a unified voice on the importance of addressing conflict and fragility in order to achieve the MDGs.

The DAC Policy Statement on Biodiversity

The DAC Policy Statement on Integrating Biodiversity and Associated Ecosystem Services into Development Co-operation outlines 30 key actions that international donors can help to halt to loss of biodiversity and  associated ecosystems. The OECD Development Assistance Committee endorsed this Statement on 15 April, 2010.

Side-event at the MDG Summit: "Achieving the MDGs: addressing conflict, fragility and armed violence"

International community develops Draft Strategic Principles for electoral support

At a 1 March 2010 roundtable, a set of draft strategic principles on international support for elections highlighted the importance of raising discussions around electoral support from a technical to a more strategic level. To this end, these principles will be refined as part of GOVNET’s effort to improve donor support to domestic accountability in time for the 2011 High Level Forum on Aid Effectiveness.

Achieving the MDGs in crisis settings: Accra Declaration endorsed by fragile and conflict-affected states

A group of 12 countries met in Accra on 19-20 July 2010 to reflect on their MDG performance and articulate priorities for accelerating progress toward the Millennium Development Goals in preparation for the MDG Summit in September. Participants endorsed the Accra Declaration on achieving the MDGs in crisis settings.

The purpose of this endeavour is to inform ongoing efforts to strengthen evaluation systems – in donor and partner countries – to enhance the role of evaluation in contributing to better development results and stronger accountability.
