Abstracts of the OECD Workshop on the Biology of Atlantic Salmon (Salmo Salar)

This workshop was held in Moscow, Russian Federation, 29 November - 1 December 2004. The objective of the workshop was to identify and review the kinds of  baseline information of (non-transgenic) traditional fish farming or breeding, and to determine what information might be relevant to risk/ safety assessment.

An Introduction to the food/feed safety consensus documents of the task force

This text was prepared by the Task Force for the Safety of Novel Foods and Feeds to provide an introduction to the consensus documents of the OECD’s Task Force. It explains, amongst other things, why the Task Force decided to prepare consensus documents as part of its programme of work. It describes their purpose and their use as a practical contribution to the risk/safety assessment of foods and feeds derived from transgenic organisms. It also explains the process by which consensus documents are drafted and brought to final publication.

Safety Assessment of Transgenic Organisms: OECD Consensus Documents (Vols. 1 & 2)

These OECD Biosafety Consensus Documents identify elements of scientific information used in the environmental safety and risk assessment of transgenic organisms which are common to OECD member countries.  This is intended to encourage information sharing and prevent duplication of effort among countries. This book offers ready access to those consensus documents which have been published thus far. As such, it should be of value to applicants for commercial uses of transgenic crops, regulators in national authorities as well as the wider scientific community.

Financing Water Supply and Sanitation in Eastern Europe, Caucasus and Central Asia: Ministerial Conference Proceedings

On 17th-18th November2005, OECD and the Government of Armenia co-organised a conference of Ministers of Economy/Finance, Environment and Water.
This document presents the conference proceedings. Ministers discussed how to address the critical situation of the water sector in EECCA countries, particularly how to finance much-needed improvements. The meeting examined progress in light of a set of guiding principles they had adopted at an earlier meeting in Almaty in 2000.

Publication of two new OECD Monographs in the Series on Testing and Assessment

Two new Guidance Documents on the Current Approaches in the Statistical Analysis of Ecotoxicity Data: A Guidance to Application and on Simulated Freshwater Lentic Field Tests (Outdoor Microcosms and Mesocosms) were declassified and published in June 2006.

New and Revised Test Guidelines Published

The OECD Guidelines for the Testing of Chemicals are a collection of the most relevant internationally agreed test methods used by government, industry and independent laboratories to determine the safety of chemicals and chemical preparations, including pesticides and industrial chemicals. They cover tests for the physical-chemical properties of chemicals, human health effects, environmental effects, and degradation and accumulation in the environment and pesticide residue chemistry.

Centre for PRTR Data

This database was developed by the Task Force on PRTRs, which is part of the OECD's Environment, Health and Safety Programme. Japan served as a lead country in its development. The purpose of this database is to share PRTR data as widely as possible within the OECD area, consistent with the OECD Council Recommendation C(96)41/Final, as amended by C(2003)87. The data is compiled on a national or regional level. The database does not include data of individual sites or facilities. The database will be updated on a regular basis.

Position Paper of the Working Group on Good Laboratory Practice: ‘Outsourcing’ of Inspection Functions by Glp Compliance Monitoring Authorities

This document was endorsed by the Working Group on Good Laboratory Practice at its 20th Meeting on 4 April 2006 and declassified by the Joint Meeting on 10 June 2006. It reiterates the decisions and the recommendations related to the role and responsibilities of governments, national GLP compliance monitoring authorities and inspectors as set out in the 1989 Council Decision-Recommendation on Compliance with Good Laboratory Practice [C(89)87(Final) and its Annexes, as concerns outsourcing of inspection functions.
