Tax revenues, measured as the ratio of tax to Gross Domestic Product (GDP), are rising in many OECD countries despite deep cuts in tax rates, according to a new OECD report, reflecting both the effects of stronger economic growth, which has led to higher corporate profits, and moves in some countries to offset the effects of cuts in tax rates by broadening the tax base and improving tax compliance.

A new OECD report on early childhood policy, Starting Strong II, shows that more countries are making early childhood education and care a priority, with greater attention paid to service quality. Increasingly, it shows, the early years are viewed as the first step in lifelong learning and a key to successful social, family and education policies.

The OECD Development Assistance Committee welcomed the Netherlands’ continued commitment to maintain high levels of development aid. The Netherlands Official Development Assistance in 2005 was USD 5.11 billion, or 0.82% of Gross National Income, making it one of the world’s most generous donor countries.

Iceland's growth performance has been impressive, but it has been accompanied by large economic imbalances that need to be corrected swiftly by approriate monetary and fiscal policies. Other challenges include minimising risks to the stability of, and completing reforms in, the financial sector as well as human capital development to sustain the rise in the country's prosperity.
