Development aid from OECD countries fell 5.1% in 2006

Total official development assistance (ODA) from members of the Development Assistance Committee (DAC) fell by 5.1% in 2006 to USD 103.9 billion. This represents 0.30% of members’ combined Gross National Income. In real terms this is the first fall in ODA since 1997, though the level is still the highest recorded with the exception of 2005.

The economic recovery in Belgium is becoming more durable. Nevertheless, unemployment remains high and there are already signs that some productions factors are coming under strain. Thus, further labour market reform is required to bolster employment gains. Other challenges include securing additional fiscal consolidation across all levels of government to address the sizeable consequences of ageing, enhancing the efficiency of tertiary education and further improving the functioning of the financial markets.

OECD welcomes tax information exchange agreements between the Netherlands Antilles and Australia and New Zealand

The Netherlands Antilles yesterday signed bilateral agreements with Australia and New Zealand for the exchange of information for tax purposes, marking further progress in international efforts to implement the principles of transparency and exchange of information for tax purposes developed by the OECD’s Global Forum on Taxation.

OECD’s Taxing Wages shows little change in taxes on individual wage earners

The OECD’s annual compendium of tax data shows little change in levels of taxation on wage earners in different OECD countries, with Turkey, Poland and France levying the most on a single-earner married couple with two children on average earnings and Ireland, New Zealand and Iceland taking the least.
