Save the Date: 9th International Economic Forum on Africa scheduled for June 5th

Registration is now open for the annual Africa forum co-organized by the OECD Development Centre, the African Development Bank and the UN Economic Commission. The largest public debate on Africa held in France, the meeting will take place at the French Ministry of the Economy, Industry and Employment in Paris. This year, government officials and private sector representatives will examine the continent’s economic performance and its relationship to information and communication technologies (ICTs).

AEO 2008 presented in Angola and Cape Verde

The AEO 2008 was presented last week in Luanda, Angola and Praia, Cape Verde. These public presentations were organised with the support of the Portuguese Government and were held at Portugal's embassies in both capitals.

AEO partners present 2008 edition in Cairo

The 2008 edition of the AEO was presented today in Cairo, Egypt, by a panel of Development Centre and African Development Bank experts. Following the presentation, participants from government, business, civil society and international organisations debated Egypt's growth prospects and the importance of technical and vocational skills development - the thematic focus of this year's AEO - for Africa's economic and social development. The event was opened by Egypt's Minister for International Co-operation Mrs. Fayza Aboulnaga.

Theme of African Economic Outlook 2009 announced: Innovation in telecommunications

The African Development Bank, the OECD Development Centre and the UN Economic Commission for Africa have chosen 'Innovation in Telecommunications' as the thematic focus of the 2009 edition of the African Economic Outlook (AEO). Every year the AEO takes an in-depth look at an issue of critical importance for the continent's advancement. This year's theme completes the series on infrastructure sectors examined in previous editions: energy supply and poverty (2003)transport infrastructure (2005) and access to drinking water and sanitation (2007).

Africa’s economic growth in 2007 well above the long-term trend for the fifth consecutive year

Africa’s average real GDP grew by 5.7 per cent in 2007. The 2008 African Economic Outlook report , jointly published by the African Development Bank, the OECD Development Centre and the UNECA expects the rate of GDP growth to strengthen to about 6 per cent in 2008 and in 2009. 

African Economic Outlook 2007

The African Economic Outlook combines the expertise of the OECD with the knowledge of the African Development Bank on African economies. The objective is to review annually the recent economic situation and the likely short-term evolution of selected African countries. The 2007 focus is on Access to Drinking Water and Sanitation.

Experts' Meeting on Access to Drinking Water and Sanitation in Africa, Paris, 1 December 2006

This Meeting aimed at identifying Africa’s key challenges in progressing towards the MDG targets related to water and sanitation. African and OECD policy makers, analysts and private sector representatives shared lessons learnt and success stories in financing access to drinking water and sanitation.
