Multi-stakeholder Dialogue on Integrity Frameworks in Egypt, Iraq and Jordan
Amman, Jordan - 12-13 February 2012
Participants at this meeting called for increased awareness of anti-corruption laws, institutions, and mechanisms, as well as a better understanding of the economic costs of corruption. They recognised that the public sector must take the lead in drafting and enforcing appropriate legislation and setting up appropriate control mechanisms, but emphasised the key roles of the private sector and civil society.
The final declaration of the meeting also highlighted the role of international organisations such as the OECD in the collection and diffusion of good practices.
Co-organised by the MENA-OECD Investment Programme and the Jordanian Anti-Corruption Commission, this meeting brought together over 50 representatives from government, business and civil society.
Agreed next steps include:
- That the draft stocktaking initiated by the MENA-OECD Investment Programme be completed with information provided by participants from the three countries, and that it subsequently be complemented by an assessment of implementation.
- That the MENA-OECD Investment Programme support the establishment and institutionalisation of a multi-stakeholder dialogue in the participating countries, notably making use of OECD instruments and experiences.
- That a series of exchanges continue to be organised, notably on the corporate social responsibility of business and on means to prevent and fight corruption in licensing and public procurement.
