The first meeting of the Regional Task Force on Responsible Business Conduct took place in Cairo on 26 October 2008. Participants representing governments, businesses and civil society in MENA and OECD countries gathered to discuss concrete initiatives for engaging in responsible business conduct and strengthening partnerships, focusing on:
Participants explored the roles of all the parties involved, outlining the respective roles of governments, private sector and civil society, and proposed mechanisms for strengthening partnerships and measuring impact.
H.E. Mahmoud Mohieldin, Egypt's Minister of Investment, stressed the importance of responsible business conduct to ensure law enforcement and fight corruption, especially in the context of the current crisis.
