The MENA-OECD Enterprise Financing Network (EFN) announced the launch of an Enterpreneurship Day and Business Plan Competition during its third meeting, organised by the MENA-OECD Investment Programme in co-operation with the MENA Centre for Investment on 19 May 2008 in Manama, Bahrain.

Dr Abdulla Al Sadeq, deputy chairman of the MENA Centre for Investment, opened the meeting, which welcomed officials from the OECD, experts and representatives of various local and regional organisations, business entrepreneurs, owners of small and medium-sized enterprises and financial institutions experts.

Discussions focused on developments in the MENA region with regard to entrepreneurship and financing activities, as well as recent EFN activities and work plan.

The meeting marked the launch of two EFN initiatives:

• the EFN Entrepreneurship Day, expected in 2009, which will be the occasion to hear and learn from entrepreneurs in MENA countries, and exchange innovative ways of financing entrepreneurship
• the MENA 100 business plan competition awarding the top entrepreneurs in the MENA region, to be presented at the EFN Entrepreneurship Day in the Kingdom of Bahrain.
