People across the world are calling for more openness in government and are therefore seeking public administrations that promote the principles of transparency, integrity, accountability and stakeholder participation. Open government strategies and initiatives are key to renewing citizens' relationship with public officials and to regaining their trust in government. There is also increasing recognition that Open Government initiatives can play a pivotal role in supporting good governance, democracy and inclusive growth.
Building on two decades of experience, the OECD supports MENA countries with the design and implementation of open government strategies and initiatives, including:
Strengthening the governance of Open Government at national and local levels
Open government reforms can not only lead to better policies and services, they are also a means to improve the quality of a country’s democratic life and to better meet the needs of citizens and businesses.
The OECD has been working with the Ministry of Planning and International Cooperation via its Open Government project in Jordan, which focuses on supporting the design and implementation of open government National Action Plans. Through the establishment of the Open Government Unit within the Ministry,the project has also helped promote the open government principles of transparency, integrity, accountability and participation throughout the government.
