The first meeting of the GfD Initiative’s Regional Working Group VI on Civil Society and the Media, which is thematically managed by UNDP-POGAR, took place in Beirut, Lebanon on 28-29 September. It was held at the invitation of the Ministry of State for Administrative Development (OMSAR) under the patronage of the Prime Minister of Lebanon, H.E. Mr. Fouad Saniora.
The meeting was attended by more than 80 representatives from ministries concerned with public sector reform and from the non-governmental sector from Algeria, Bahrain, Egypt, Jordan, Lebanon, Morocco, Palestine, Tunis and Yemen, and by researchers and practitioners from OECD countries. The meeting was addressed by H.E. Mr. Jean Oghassabian, Minister of State for Administrative Reform (Lebanon), Ms. Mona Hammam, Resident Representative of the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) and UN Resident Coordinator, Lebanon, as well as by H.E. Mr. Patrick Renauld, Head of the European Delegation, Lebanon. The OECD was represented by Mr. Rolf Alter, Deputy Director for Governance and Territorial Development.
