Public-private alliances for inclusive growth

The second meeting of the Business Advisory Board (BAB) will be divided into a morning of thematic sessions, and an afternoon with a Government-Business Summit:
Thematic discussions: A series of panels will aim to gather the views and recommendations of the private sector on how to address critical issues such as supporting SMEs to internationalise, reducing corruption, and promoting gender balance in the private sector.
Government-Business Summit: The Summit will consist of interactive discussions between ministers of economy and investment, heads of business organisations and CEOs of leading companies to address the key challenges and priorities in the region: implementing economic reforms and building inclusive societies.
Enhancing the competitiveness of the Middle East and North Africa region must be accompanied by the promotion of inclusive growth and decent work opportunities for all. This requires strong partnerships between governments, the business community and labour organisations. Public-Private Dialogue (PPD) is increasingly recognised as a tool to create effective and transparent reform coalitions to inform the design and implementation of policies, and build trust between economic actors.
In the MENA region, such participatory mechanisms need to be strengthened. Moreover, the private sector in some MENA countries remains fragmented and dispersed. The MENA-OECD Business Advisory Board (BAB) aims to provide a structured, sustainable and well-informed platform for private sector mobilisation. Building such institutional frameworks in which the private sector can participate and effectively contribute to the decision-making process is essential for producing better policy outcomes.
About the MENA-OECD Business Advisory Board (BAB)
The BAB is co-chaired by the Spanish Confederation of Employers’ Organisation (CEOE) and the Tunisian Confederation of Industry, Trade and Handicrafts (UTICA). The aim of this initiative is to create a reform coalition between governments and the business community to inform regional policy dialogue and promote new forms of Public-Private Dialogue in the region.

The MENA-OECD Business Advisory Board informs the policy dialogue throughout the Competitiveness Programme with the views, challenges and needs of the private sector. For this aim, its members will participate in the different Working Groups of the Programme, comment and contribute to analytical work and provide strategic directions where needed.
