MENA-OECD Task Force on Energy and Infrastructure

The MENA-OECD Task Force on Energy and Infrastructure launched its latest publication "Renewable energies in the Middle East and North Africa: Policies to support private investment" on 20 March 2013. Aimed at policy-makers in the MENA region, the publication makes the case for a stronger deployment of renewable energies in the region and identifies appropriate support policies to stimulate investment.

The MENA-OECD Task Force on Energy and Infrastructure was launched in 2010. Its work focuses on formulating policy recommendations to help spur investment in renewable energy in the MENA region, letting policy makers benefit from the private sector's view and experience. The Task Force produces opinion papers, and dialogues directly with policy makers through the working groups of the MENA-OECD Investment Programme, such as Working Group 1 on Investment Policy and Promotion.

The Task Force is a forum for public-private dialogue where members work to formulate policy advocacy to MENA policy makers on issues related to renewable energy and related infrastructure development. Key means to strengthen this dialogue and programme of work include:

  • Providing policy makers with recommendations on policy or reform priorities
  • Strengthening the public-private dialogue through high-profile debates between business and policy makers
  • Generating new business opportunities and fostering cross-regional contacts between the regions through the meetings and activities of the Task Force
  • Fostering exchanges of best practices, and learning-by-doing among the members.

The Task Force works to promote green growth, as mandated at the MENA-OECD Ministerial Conference and Business Forum in Marrakech in November 2009. As such it contributes to the OECD's Green Growth Strategy, specifically applied to the Middle East and North Africa.
