The OECD Centre for Private Sector Development in Istanbul provides a central platform for co-operation between the OECD and transition or emerging economies on private sector development policies through its approach to policy dialogue and exchange of experiences and development of best practices for market economy reform.

On 8 September 2000, an agreement was signed on the occasion of the inauguration of a new site for the Istanbul Centre by OECD Secretary-General Donald Johnston and Ambassador Mithat Balkan of the Turkish Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Minister of State Abdulhaluk Cay, and the Istanbul Stock Exchange President Osman Birsen were present.

Since its founding in January 1994, the Istanbul Centre has held over 100 workshops and working group meetings, bringing together more than 2300 senior officials and policymakers from Central Asia, Caucasus, Black Sea, Central and Eastern European countries, as well as Mongolia and the Russian Federation.

The Istanbul Centre has a stakeholder-oriented management structure that includes all those involved in the Centre's work (donors, participating countries, international institutions, non-governmental organisations and private sector participants).
