9 June 2011 - Mexico City, Mexico
As part of the OECD’s 50th anniversary celebrations, a roundtable on the contribution of insurance and pensions to economic growth took place in Mexico City on 9 June 2011. This event was hosted by the Insurance and Surety National Commission (CNSF) and National Commission for the Pension System (CONSAR) of Mexico, with the support of OECD Secretary-General Angel Gurría.
The roundtable focused on the role of insurance and private pension systems in fostering economic growth, including infrastructure development, innovation, and green growth. Two main sessions addressed:
- the contribution of institutional investors, including insurers and pension funds, to long-term and sustainable economic growth, in their function as major financial intermediaries
- the role of insurance markets and private pensions systems in promoting risk mitigation and protection and encouraging long-term savings, and thus contributing to sustained economic growth
