Mental health
Mental disorders account for one of the largest and fastest growing categories of the burden of disease with which health systems must cope, accounting for a significant share of health spending, particularly public health spending. Furthermore, many mild to moderate mental disorders are under-diagnosed and often untreated. The OECD Mental Health project, underway this year, aims to measure the performance of the mental health system and stimulate cross-country learning and sharing of best practices. Read more

Non-Communicable Diseases (NCDs)
The OECD Health Division is actively involved in a global campaign to tackle NCDs and their key underlying risk factors. The team is making substantive contributions to a United Nations High–Level Meeting on the Prevention and Control of Noncommunicable Diseases on 19-20 September 2011. Read more |
Upcoming event: Looking Forward at 50
A special conference “Meeting the challenge of ageing and multiple morbidities” will be held in June to celebrate the OECD’s 50th anniversary this year. The focus will be improvements in health systems over the last 50 years and the challenges facing policy makers from an aging population, and the need for enhanced coordination of patients with co-occurring chronic illnesses.
