OECD Secretary-General congratulates Chancellor Merkel on her re-election victory


23/09/2013 - OECD Secretary-General Angel Gurría congratulated German Chancellor Angela Merkel on her re-election for a third term. In a letter to the Chancellor, Mr. Gurría remarked that the election results have sent a clear message from the German electorate of their trust and confidence in the Chancellor’s leadership. “Such an impressive result ”—Mr. Gurría said— “is recognition of Chancellor Merkel’s accomplishments during her previous terms in office, in a very difficult context.”

The OECD Secretary-General offered the Chancellor his best wishes in forming a new Government and underlined that the OECD looks forward to continuing to work with the German government on an ambitious agenda of reforms for Germany and Europe.

“We are at a juncture where strong action and determination are required to continue building a dynamic and inclusive Europe”— Mr. Gurría added—“We stand ready to continue working with the German Government in promoting better policies for better lives, in Germany, Europe and the wider world.”
