Fiscal Discipline between Levels of Government in Germany

The essential actors in co-ordinating fiscal discipline in Germany are the Federation and the 16 Länder. This article presents an overview of the legal basis of the budgetary process and how it is designed with respect to Federation-Länder relations. Developments since 1945 are also described, including the budget reform of 1969, German adherence to the European Economic and Monetary Union, and the work of the Federalism Commission

Pensions at a Glance 2009: Highlights for Germany

The German pension system has so far been less affected by the crisis than many other OECD countries... Replacement rates for low-earners are the lowest within the OECD at 43.0%. But coverage of private pensions is high, especially for lower earners, compared with other OECD countries.<

Gesellschaft auf einen Blick 2009: In Deutschland haben die Menschen deutlich mehr Freizeit als in den meisten anderen OECD-Ländern und sie verbringen sie weniger häufig vor dem Fernseher oder am Radio. Die Studie führt zum ersten Mal Erhebungen zur Zeitnutzung aus 18 OECD-Ländern zusammen und bereitet die Daten für den internationalen Vergleich auf.
