OECD-Universities Joint Conference: Economics for a Better World, OECD Headquarters, Paris, France
This will be the third international conference of economists interested in welfare economics and public policy broadly defined. This conference will follow those organised in Oxford (July 2009) and Paris (July 2011). The 2013 OECD-Universities Joint Conference will be informed by the work done over the past decade by economists, statisticians and social analysts to develop broad measures of well-being, and touch on some of the well-being dimensions included in recent OECD reports on the subject.
The conference will feature roundtables, plenary sessions and contributed research papers on the wide range of issues that matter to the economics of human well-being. It will include three major strands: policy and empirical economics; economic theory; and econometrics. The conference may also include sessions on other relevant social sciences.

The main objectives of the 4th OECD World Forum on "Statistics, Knowledge and Policy" was to further the discussions on the different aspects that make for a good life today and in the future in different countries of the world and to promote the development and use of new measures of well-being for effective and accountable policy-making. Regional conferences
|
| |
| Several regional conferences are being organised in the lead up to the 4th OECD World Forum. These events are jointly convened with National Statistical Offices and leading national and regional actors, in collaboration with the OECD Development Centre and the PARIS21 Secretariat. These conferences aim to deepen on-going reflection on how to measure well-being and the progress of societies, enhance the relevance of measures and analysis for addressing key policy issues, and lead to concrete outputs, such as establishing frameworks for future work. |

European Conference on Measuring Well-Being and Fostering the Progress of Societies, Paris, France. The Conference represented the first milestone for the co-ordination activities undertaken as part of the European Framework for Measuring Progress e-Frame EU FP7 project. The conference served as a platform for discussing how best to advance the implementation of the recommendations included in the Final Report of the European Statistical System (ESS) Sponsorship Group on Measuring Progress, Well-Being and Sustainable Development, adopted by the ESS Committee in November 2011. |

African Conference on Measuring Well-Being and Fostering the Progress of Societies, Rabat, Morocco. The African Conference on Measuring Well-Being and Fostering the Progress of Societies was one of a series of regional conferences which was conducted in preparation for the 4th OECD World Forum on Statistics, Knowledge and Policies, to be held in New Delhi in October 2012. The Conference was jointly organised by the OECD Development Centre and the Moroccan High Planning Commission (HCP) in collaboration with the OECD, the African Development Bank (AfDB) and the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (ECA). |

The OECD and the European Social Survey organised a seminar on ‘Economic Crisis, the Quality of Work and Well-Being – The European Experience in the Great Recession’. The seminar presented findings from the European Social Survey and gathered some of the most prominent researchers working on the relationship between the quality of work and quality of life. Conference on New Directions in Welfare, OECD Headquarters, Paris, France (co-organised by The Open University, Oxford University, Karlsruhe Institute of Technology and the OECD).
This event gathered researchers and academics working in welfare economics. It aimed to deepen the dialogue between policy-makers and the academic community, and to engage the latter in a discussion on policies to improve people's well-being.
