Mr. Michael FORBES

Mr. Forbes was born in Dublin on 13 December 1956. He graduated in 1980 with a Masters in Economics from Trinity College Dublin.

In 1980, he entered the Department of Foreign Affairs, serving as a Third Secretary at the Development Cooperation Division and from 1982, at the Political Division. The following year he was promoted to Second Secretary and posted to the Embassy of Ireland in New Delhi, India. In 1987, he returned to Dublin as Deputy Press Officer at the Press Section of the Department of Foreign Affairs. In 1990, he was appointed Deputy Consul General at the Consulate General of Ireland in San Francisco, United States. Then, in 1991, he was appointed First Secretary at the Anglo-Irish Division of the Department. In 1992, he returned to the Press Section as a Press Officer.

From 1993 to 1995, Mr. Forbes served as a First Secretary at the Embassy of Ireland in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. Subsequently, from 1995 to 1999, he was posted to the Embassy of Ireland in Paris, France. In August 1999, he was named Deputy Director responsible for Enlargement at the European Union Division of the Department of Foreign Affairs. From 2001 to 2005, he served as Counsellor responsible for the Antici Group at the Permanent Representation of Ireland to the European Union in Brussels. In August 2005, Mr. Forbes was named Ambassador of Ireland to Israel.

From 2009 until his nomination as Permanent Representative of Ireland to the OECD, Ambassador Forbes was the Director for Europe and Asia at the Political Division of the Department of Foreign Affairs.

Ambassador Michael Forbes took up his duties as Permanent Representative of Ireland to the OECD on 17 January 2012.
