"The so-called “glass ceiling” exists: women are disadvantaged when it comes to decision-making responsibilities and senior management. (...) Study of the boards of publicly listed companies in 35 countries (...) reveals that, in 2009, the proportion of women was highest in Norway at close to 40% in listed companies, prompted by the introduction of quota legislation in 2006. In Sweden, Finland, France and Indonesia, the proportion of women on boards in listed companies was between 15% and 20%, whereas in Germany, Japan and the Netherlands, it was less than 5%."
