Carthage Smith joined the Global Science Forum Secretariat in June 2014 as Lead Co-ordinator. He is responsible for overseeing the Forum activities and working with members and delegates to define the overall strategy and priorities.

He was originally trained as a biochemist, with a PhD in neuroscience (Newcastle University, UK). Prior to joining the GSF secretariat, he was Deputy Executive Director of the International Council for Science (ICSU, Paris) for twelve years. In this position he led the strategic development of a number of major global science initiatives, in areas ranging from environmental science to urban health, and managed a number of science for policy and policy for science activities. Prior to moving to France, he spent six years at the UK Medical Research Council, where he was Head of International Science Policy.

Frédéric SGARD

Frédéric Sgard est responsable de projets au secrétariat du Forum Mondial de la Science, où il gère un certain nombre des activités du Forum. Son portfolio actuel comprend les activités sur le projet de réseau de recherche sur l’agriculture tempérée, sur le conseil et l’expertise scientifique auprès des gouvernements, et sur les infrastructures internationales de recherche.  Il suit aussi les activités récemment complétées du Forum suivantes: La Recommandation de l’OCDE sur la Gouvernance des Essais CliniquesScientific Collections Internationals (SciColl), et le Global Earthquake Model (GEM).

Avant de rejoindre l’OCDE en 2003, il était responsable de laboratoire à Sanofi, où il a travaillé sur la découverte de nouvelles cibles pharmacologiques. Il a étudié la génétique moléculaire à l’Université Paris XI, Orsay (France), et obtenu son doctorat à l’Université de Reading (Royaume-Uni) en 1994.

Frédéric Sgard participe activement à différentes structures impliquées dans le débat science-société et dans la politique scientifique.

 

 

Keiko Kimura, OECD Global Science Forum

Keiko KIMURA is a project administrator in the Global Science Forum secretariat. She is on assignment from the Japanese Ministry for Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT) and  is working mainly on the projects that are of special interest to Japan.

Before joining the GSF secretariat, she had worked at MEXT since 1999, mainly on science and technology policy, such as promotion of science communication, space development,and nanotechnology. Her most recent assignment was at the National Institute of Science and Technology Policy (NISTEP) working on the planning of science and technology policy research. She has a Bachelor’s degree in economics and a Master’s degree in international public policy from Osaka University.
