EDU general conference 2008 › Jaana Puukka
Jaana Puukka joined the OECD Programme on International Management in Higher Education (IMHE) in 2005 to co-ordinate and manage the thematic review project on “Supporting the Contribution of Higher Education Institutions to Regional Development ” which embraced fourteen regions in twelve countries throughout the world. Her main task is to head the OECD work on Higher Education Institutions and regional development. She is the co-author and editor of the final report of the project entitled “Higher Education and Regions – Globally Competitive – Locally Engaged”.
Jaana has experience in higher education and regional development in Finland as a ministerial and local government adviser, programme manager, practitioner and evaluator. She has management experience from both the university and polytechnic sector and has worked in university internationalisation, PR & communication and stakeholder management. In addition, she has experience in the corporate sector in the pharmaceutical industry.
Before joining OECD, she was the Regional Development Manager of Turku University of Applied Sciences, at that time the biggest professionally oriented HEI in Finland. She was also involved in the evaluation of the external engagement of the University of Turku and the subsequent re-evaluation, and has worked for the Finnish Ministry of Education to review the impact and quality of university master's programmes with funding from the EU structural funds.
