Professor Helen Garnett has been Vice-Chancellor of Charles Darwin University since October 2003. Before taking this role, Professor Garnett was the chief executive of the Australian Nuclear Science & Technology Organisation (ANSTO) from 1994.
She is a Fellow of the Academy of Technological Sciences and Engineering and a Fellow of the Australian Institute of Company Directors and is currently a Director of Energy Resources of Australia Ltd, Universities Australia and the Business-Higher Education Round Table. She has previously held directorships in a number of organisations and served on committees of both the Australian Research Council and the National Health and Medical Research Council, Australia. She has a strong interest in research practice, particularly in facilitating cross disciplinarity to address complex problems and in research evaluation seeking approaches to ensure effective evaluation of different kinds of research, whether basic, applied or translational.
