Public Consultation on the 2013 European Report on Development

Development in a Changing World:

Elements for a Post-2015 Global Agenda

Wednesday 29 February, Working-Lunch

The 4th edition of European Report on Development, to be published in mid-2013, will address the emerging debate on the post-2015 global agenda on development and consider the main challenges for the next 15 years.Within the framework of the 50th anniversary of the OECD Development Centre, a working-lunch was organised to present the preparatory work for the report and discuss its potential coverage.

The panel considered the following questions:

  • What key lessons have we learnt since the adoption of the MDGs in terms of measuring progress in development at global and country level and promoting greater accountability? How should these lessons inform the new agenda?
  • How comprehensive a global agenda for inclusive and sustainable development will global actors be able and willing to agree for post-2015?
  • What form of global consensus on development is most appropriate and useful in support of partner country national development programmes?

About the report:

The European Report on Development (ERD) is the main output of the “Mobilising European Research for Development Policies” initiative, supported by the European Commission and seven EU Member States (Finland, France, Germany, Luxembourg, Spain, Sweden & United Kingdom). It is an independent research report, prepared by some of the leading EU development academics and research institutes.

The first edition dealt with the topic of fragility in Africa (2009), and the second of social protection (2010). The third edition, entitled “Confronting scarcity: managing water, energy and land for inclusive and sustainable growth”, will be launched in May 2012.

The  2012-2013 report is being prepared by a team led by the Overseas Development Institute (ODI) in partnership with the German Development Institute/Deutsches Institut für Entwicklungspolitik (DIE) and the European Centre for Development Policy Management (ECDPM).
