Bayu Krisnamurthi was appointed in 2008 as Vice Minister for the Coordination of Economic Affairs, Agriculture and Maritime Affairs. He is also Chairman of the National Coordination Team for Food Stability and Vice Chairman of the Program of Action for the Use of Alternative Energy.

Dr Krisnamurthi has also been Chairman of the Agribusiness Development Division, Department of Sustainability IPB, and a member of the National Team for Bio Fuel Development.

Dr Krisnamurthi's academic background is in the economics of agriculture. As part of his professional training after receiving his doctorate, in the summer of 2004 he took part in the United States Government’s International Leadership Visitor Program on Agricultural Trade Relations and Food Safety, organised by the US State Department and US Department of Agriculture.
