Since 2003 Sabine Laruelle has been the Belgian federal minister with responsibility for agriculture, and a member of the federal parliament. She was appointed to her current portfolio as Minister of Small and Medium Enterprises, the Self-Employed, Agriculture and Science Policy in March 2008.

 

A graduate in agronomic engineering, Ms Laruelle is a former researcher in agriculture and environment at the University of Luxembourg and the King Baudouin Foundation. She served as Director-General of the Belgian Agricultural Alliance in 1999-2000 and as Director-General of the Walloon Region Agriculture Federation from 2001 to 2003.
