2012 MENA-OECD Initiative Steering Group meeting

News release 22/11/2012: Urgent action needed on jobs and governance in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA)

22 November 2012 - OECD Conference Centre, Paris, France

In its first meeting since 2010 and the recent events in the MENA region, the Steering Group of the MENA-OECD Initiative brought together a wide range of stakeholders to take stock of the Initiative’s activities and decide upon priorities for future work.

The morning session featured a discussion on “Strengthening Dialogue with the Private Sector and Civil Society for Better Governance, Growth and Job Creation” which allowed private sector and civil society stakeholders from the MENA region to present their views on how public-private dialogue can support the implementation of the policy reforms needed to create jobs and growth.

In the afternoon, the two pillars of the MENA-OECD Initiative – Governance and Investment– held parallel sessions to present their key achievements and validate their future programme of work.

This meeting was organised back-to-back with the OECD-MENA Women's Business Forum Annual Meeting and Conference on Fostering Youth and Women's Employment in the MENA Region on 21 November 2012.

The Steering Group is the governing body of the MENA-OECD Initiative and meets every two to three years at ministerial level. It comprises representatives of government, business and civil society from 18 MENA and 34 OECD economies as well as international partner organisations who provide guidance to the Initiative.
