Mari Kiviniemi was born in Seinäjoki on 27th September 1968. She holds a Masters in Social Sciences. In 1992 she became a member of the Centre Party Delegation.  She was Vice-chairperson for the South Ostrobothnia Region Centre Party between 1994 and 2000 and became Deputy Party Leader of the Centre Party in 2003.


In 2007 she joined the Ministry of the Interior and following this was appointed Minister for Foreign Trade and Development and Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office. Ms Kiviniemi has been Minister of Public Administration and Local Government since April 2007. Ms Kiviniemi lives in Helsinki.
