Norway has made significant progress in its efforts against the bribery of foreign public officials in recent years, according to a new OECD report. But more could be done to strengthen enforcement, including by focusing on the confiscation from companies of the proceeds of bribery.
On 29 and 30 June 2011, three Working Group sessions were held with the OECD at the Grand Park Esil Hotel in Astana, Kazakhstan. Topics discussed included agricultural support measures, investment policy, attraction of modern international retail and human capital development in Information and Communication Technologies (ICT). These meetings took place as part of the OECD Sector Competitiveness Strategy project.
The 2011 Roundtable provided the first occasion to discuss the implementation of the updated Guidelines and how best to support the OECD's proactive agenda for assisting enterprises to better cope with corporate responsibility challenges worldwide.
This report examines the key policies that would increase competitiveness in Central Asia and reduce dependence on the natural resource sector, namely through developing human capital, improving access to finance, and capturing more and better investment opportunities.
