OECD and Peruvian officials visit the United Kingdom to learn about innovation on regulation and public service delivery

London, United Kingdom, 21-25 October 2019

A delegation comprised of OECD officials and representatives from the Presidency of the Council of Ministers of Peru (PCM) met in London to learn about the UK strategies and policies in the delivery of regulation and public services. The United Kingdom has one of the most developed digital systems for the provision of public services and delivery of regulation based on life events (see the website gov.uk). The United Kingdom’s approach focuses on the users, their needs and on the continuous improvement of the digital platform.

The delegation met with several stakeholders, both from the government and the private sector, which offered Peruvian officials a broader perspective on the functionality of gov.uk. During the mission, representatives from the Government Digital Service (GDS), the Better Regulation Executive (BRE) and the Office for Product Safety and Standards (OPSS) shared their experiences, challenges and practices for the development and implementation of a centralised platform for the UK government.

This technical visit is the second one of this kind, as one of the priorities of the Peruvian government is to bring the government closer to the citizens, mainly through the creation of a website that improves the effectiveness of service delivery. The first mission took place in Ottawa, Canada in June 2019 and focused on the design, management and implementation of canada.ca. Both technical visits are part of the co-operation project between the OECD and Peru aimed at improving governance performance and regulation, with funding from the European Union.
