The Working Party on Territorial Policy in Urban Areas
The OECD Working Party on Territorial Policy in Urban Areas (WPURB), in association with the Territorial Development Policy Committee (TDPC), is a unique practitioner-based forum that provides direction for the work of the OECD Urban Development programme, oversees country assessments (peer reviews), and facilitates collaboration among senior officials seeking to address challenges facing cities and metropolitan areas across OECD countries. The technical work overseen by WPURB has provided national and local governments with comparative overviews against which they can identify whether changes made elsewhere are relevant to and feasible in their own countries and level of government.
The Working Party meets one to two times a year. The current chair is Dr Vincent Fouchier (France).
Message from the Chair
The OECD Working Party on Territorial Policy in Urban Areas is one of the few places in the world for impartial international and intergovernmental discussions on urban issues. It offers a forum for debating the principal problems facing urban policy makers, enriching dialogue with international comparisons, high-level expertise and in-depth case studies, and providing city and metropolitan actors with an original and forward-looking perspective. By partnering with national and subnational governments as well as socio-economic actors, the Working Party disseminates knowledge and has become an international reference for policy solutions to urban challenges.
