David Hoey is CEO of WorldSkills International. Mr. Hoey was recruited in 2005 (first full-time manager) to provide professional management of the organisation including strategic, operational and administrative responsibility. Mr. Hoey has progressively developed WorldSkills International to be a global organisation capitalising on its unique and very important role in the showcasing and development of skills excellence.
WorldSkills International is an international membership organisation (65 Members – 25 countries have joined in the last 7 years). Its mission is to promote and facilitate through co-operative action a worldwide awareness of the essential contribution that skills and high standards of competence make to the achievement of economic success and personal fulfilment. Its flagship event, the WorldSkills Competition is held biennially and has come to symbolise the pinnacle of excellence in vocational education and training. Hundreds of young skilled people, accompanied by their teachers and trainers, gather together from around the world to compete before the public in the skills of their various trades and technologies and test themselves against demanding international standards. WorldSkills Leipzig 2013 will have over 1000 Competitors from 54 countries/regions in 46 skill categories with approximately 10,000 international delegates and 200,000 visitors.
Mr. Hoey has a Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Certificate IV in Training & Assessment and a Masters of Business Administration. Recent studies include Strategic Perspectives for Nonprofit Management at HBS and Performance Measurement of Nonprofit Organizations at Harvard Kennedy School.
