COP15 in Copenhagen was a crucial step in the international effort to address climate change. The OECD actively participated in this conference in several ways, including through an OECD side event,  participation in other side events, a media briefing, an official statement, and a publications stand.

• 9:00 - Copenhagen Climate Summit for Mayors, Copenhagen City Hall. OECD Secretary-General Angel Gurría gave a keynote speech on creating public/private partnerships to fund ‘green’ projects, based on the findings of the new OECD work, Competitive Cities and Climate Change.
  
  
• 14:00 - 14:30: Media briefing "Economic Growth Can be Green"  by OECD Secretary-General Angel Gurría. Tackling Climate Change and Growing the Economy: Key messages and recommendations from recent OECD work (downloadable 4 pg brochure).
  

Thursday 17 December

• 18:15 - 19:45: OECD side event chaired by OECD Secretary-General Angel Gurría: "How can we build a sound economic foundation for the post-2012 international climate framework?"

  A sound economic footing is essential for a cost-effective and ambitious post-2012 climate agreement. Ministers and senior OECD officials discussed how to minimise the costs of action, how to generate the necessary financing and investment flows, and the incentives for ambitious action by all. Mr Gurría highlighted a new OECD publication that pulls together two years of work overseen by finance and environment ministries on The Economics of Climate Change Mitigation: Policies and Options for Global Action Beyond 2012.
