The eChemPortal – also known as the Global Portal to Information on Chemical Substances provides free access to information of regulatory relevance on industrial chemicals, pesticides and biocides. Users can simultaneously search for data contained in multiple data sources via searches by chemical identity, by certain properties or effects. Governments and all stakeholders can use this tool for finding information on hazard identification to support health and environment decisions concerning chemicals.
The new search by GHS classification in eChemPortal allows users, for an individual chemical, to view GHS classifications which have undergone a review by a regulatory body or intergovernmental organisation. The first data sources linked to via this search are the C&L inventory of the European Chemicals Agency (ECHA) and the GHS Classification Results by the Japanese Government.
The eChemPortal was established as part of the OECD’s wider Chemicals Programme. Since 1978, the program has been helping governments and industry find the most cost-effective way of assessing and managing the risks posed by chemicals.
The eChemPortal facilitates public access to appropriate information and knowledge on chemicals and also contributes to the OECD efforts in capacity building in chemicals management. OECD efforts to manage work-sharing and harmonise chemical safety policies across its member countries save government and industry more than EUR 150 million annually.
The eChemPortal was developed with the financial assistance of the European Chemicals Agency and has benefited from the contributions of governments, NGOs and the chemical industry.
