Workshop "Measuring Gender Equality"

24 - 25 May 2007

OECD Development Centre
International Expert's Workshop on

Measuring Gender Equality -
Taking Stock and Looking Forward

Improving gender equality needs good indicators. In order to streamline ongoing discussions on measuring gender equality this Expert's Workshop brought together key stakeholders to exchange their experiences with gender-related data. Participants included experts from international organisations, non-governmental organisations and research institutes as well as statistical offices. In addition to a presentation of existing data compilations, focus was put on methodological issues, questions of data aggregation and indicator building, as well as options for improved data collection and quality (here ).

Beyond taking stock of existing knowledge, the workshop opened a forum for future exchange and co-operation in the pursuit of better measures of gender equality. The workshop thus not only provided a learning experience for participants but established a road-map for future work in this interesting area.
