DEV Week 2017 - Embracing Development's Complexity

 

2 - 6 October 2017  OECD, Paris


Ministers and high-ranking officials from the 52 Member countries of the OECD Development Centre gathered at the Centre’s Governing Board 4th High-level Meeting (HLM, 3rd October 2017, OECD Headquarters in Paris).

 

Under the overarching theme Embracing development’s complexity, they discussed three main issues:

  • Development in Transition: the challenges faced by developing countries as they move across income levels, including in terms of access to financing;

  • Migration and Development: the need for coherent policy frameworks to enhance the contribution of migration to the development of both countries of origin and destination;
  • Gender Equality and Women’s Empowerment: how the Centre’s Social Institutions and Gender Index (SIGI) can be a tool for monitoring progress with gender-related SDGs (notably SDG5).

The Meeting was held in the context of a series of high-level events, including the 17th International Economic Forum on Africa, the first Policy Dialogue on Migration and Development, the 5th Angus Maddison Lecture, a meeting of the Emerging Markets Network, and a meeting of the Network on Foundations on Global Private Philanthropy for Development.
