This workshop, sponsored by the National Treasury of South Africa, the Bond Exchange of South Africa and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Iceland, was organised within the framework of the OECD Project on African Public Debt Management and Bond Markets. It provided an opportunity for African countries to discuss and debate practical market-infrastructure issues which are of major concern for debt managers in the African debt markets.

The agenda was compiled in consultation with African debt managers and in particular with the members of the OECD Steering Committee on African Debt Management and Bond Markets (with representatives from the OECD and African countries such as Nigeria, Tanzania, Uganda and South Africa).
The workshop was attended by at public sector officials with the responsibility of debt management within respective ministries of finance or central banks, as well as investors, intermediaries, and other service providers in the financial markets.
